In 2004 several well-known authors of action adventure-type novels felt that there was a necessity to form an association or group dedicated to authors who write thrillers. These include the action-adventure-type novels, the espionage novel, the books that have you gripping your book so hard that you leave finger dents on the cover.

The International Thriller Writers was formed and THRILLER is their first collaboration. This book is basically a who's who in books that keep you awake and night. Lee Child, Michael Preston, Gayle Lynds, David Morrell, and F Paul Wilson are just some of the people who have contributed stories for this book.

The best part of a short story book of this magnitude is the variety of flavors that you get from this book. You might recognize some of these authors and some you might know just by name. Here you get the opportunity to try each author out as well as finding some new-to-you authors. You are guaranteed to find something in this book.

James Patterson, author of the beloved Alex Cross series, edited this book and he introduces each one of the authors, giving a brief glimpse of each. A good portion of these stories features characters from the contributors' previous works. For example Lee Child's James Penney's New Identity features an early story where Jack Reacher makes a brief appearance in the life of a secondary character from one of his previous works. Then there is also the successful writing team of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, who are best known for their series featuring Special Agent Pendergast, trying to do something different. In Gone Fishing the authors' focus their energies on one of the secondary (should be primary) characters in the series, former NYPD Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta in an adventure all of his own.

Granted there are a couple of clunkers, but that is just my opinion. If I were to pick one that I really enjoyed it would have to be Gayle Lynds' The Hunt for Dmitri, a story featuring Liz Sansborough, the daughter of an assassin who goes by the name Carnivore. You're in for a treat with this anthology. THRILLER has something for everyone, and it introduced me to some authors whose novels should be worth trying in the future.
