Serge A Storms has made it back to Florida after his adventures in Hollywood in THE BIG BAMBOO. Florida and its history have always been his favorite subjects so he is enthusiastic to be home.

However, there are a few minor problems in his life. He is facing what his psychologist believes is a mid-life crisis. He finds himself interested in things he has never cared about before – like a Hummer SUV – and he seems to be killing fewer people. He is also interested in young pot-smoking women and is seeing more of them then he normally does. Agent Mahoney returns to the series as he has been released from the funny farm and believes that Serge is not having a mid-life crisis but has become schizophrenic.

Luckily it is the beginning of hurricane season and the pressure systems have a way of making life interesting. As Serge wants to drive in the eye of a hurricane, this will provide him with the perfect opportunity to change his life. The fact that this is also the worst hurricane season on record means Serge will have multiple times to make changes and improvements.

While chasing the hurricanes with his buddy Coleman, Serge starts a new killing spree. These victims include those who play their music too loud and those who take advantage of the desperate. Being Serge, the victims all die in unusual manners.

Unfortunately at the same times as Serge is on his hurricane-hunting killing spree, someone else is murdering people in unusual ways. The local paper, under the influence of Agent Mahoney, is telling the public that there is only one killer with a split personality. Serge is unable to take this sitting down and does his best, through letter writing and kidnapping, to explain the truth. Before Florida can be destroyed due to the numerous hurricanes hitting this season, Serge must reveal the true killer and work his way through his mid-life crisis.

Tim Dorsey is one of my favorite authors. In fact, he is one of the few authors where I will rush out and buy the book the day it is released. While his humor is more blatant than Carl Hiaasen's, they both view Florida in the same cynical yet humorous manner.

Dorsey's books are always entertaining and well-plotted. Even though his characters are over the top and outrageous there is something highly amusing about them. In fact, Serge A Storms is one of the most appealing serial killers in print today. Even though this book has just been released, I cannot wait to read the next one.
