Dex Edden is not a happy camper. His friend and boss, the rich and overly boisterous Wade has dragged him to the week-long Burning Man Art Festival in the Nevada desert. A solitary computer guy by trade and temperament, Dex feels like Alice Through The Looking Glass when he sees what kinds of people are at the art festival.

Wade welcomes a guest into their RV camper, a man who is dressed in a pink Darth Vader costume with rabbit ears and that's how Dex finds out that everyone at the Festival dresses to their own drummer. But when the man suddenly strikes Wade on the head and kills him, Dex manages to escape and is on the run. He finds himself alone and in the middle of a very strange place, surrounded by totally outrageous people. He's confused and fearful. What can he do, who'd believe what happened?

He soon finds out that the remarkable people of the Black Rock City Festival would. Every citizen of the phoenix-like town, a place that rises from the desert for one week a year and is then completely dissembled, is there practising their art, whether it is personal or lifestyle. One group of people, or tribe, believes Dex's story and bonds together to help find the real killer.

THE MAN BURNS TONIGHT by Donn Cortez has a murder mystery as its premise, but the investigation to find the murderer is placed a far second in importance behind the author's tour and explanation of the credo for the Burning Man Festival.

At first readers might be as confused as Dex at his surrounding and the strange sights to be seen. But before long the magic and charm of the place and people will soon capture their interest as the participants of the Burning Man Festival takes in the outsider Dex and make his predicament and its rightful solution their newest project.

THE MAN BURNS TONIGHT is a wonderfully written book that will capture your complete interest as it introduces you to the unique outlook, rules, sayings and lifestyles of the awe-inspiring and sometimes baffling dedicated people who flock to the Burning Man Festival every year.

Though the art festival is generally known for the burning of the Wicker Man at the culmination of the week, THE MAN BURNS TONIGHT lets the rest of the world into the event. I was astounded at how much this book tempts the reader to see the festival for themselves. Read it, it's a remarkable book about extraordinary people in a unique location.
