Department Thirty is a secret government organization with a lot of power and jurisdiction towards local and federal law enforcement divisions. This organization deals with the most dangerous criminals such as organized crime whistleblowers and scandal-ridden white-collar crooks.

The department takes custody of those whom are of interest to them and they make sure that they are never seen or heard from again. It is an arrangement that works fine for most police departments. However, if they knew what really happened to those felons, the cops might want to reconsider.

Former US Marshall Faith Kelly winds up getting drafted as an officer in Department Thirty after a series of events forces them to show their hand and make her part of the group. Faith is not happy with the arrangement and knows that she has no say in the matter, yet she will go and make the best of it.

Department Thirty's purpose is to provide new lives and identities to select criminals who provide information in the interest of national security inside the United Sates. Faith's job is to supervise the people assigned to her territory and make sure they are on the straight and narrow. If someone decides to go back to a life of crime, they will regret it. Uncle Sam can be very unforgiving.

In THE MESA CONSPIRACY, Faith is responsible for the first person ever inducted inside the program, a program that's been running for more than 30 years. Nathan Grant has planned something evil, which was begun decades ago, and it is now coming to fruition. His plans are about to be derailed as an element from his past has come back to haunt him and Faith is not playing by the rules -- his rules.

Throughout the novel David Kent entertains readers by focusing on Faith's life as she deals with the intricacies of her new position and with bureaucrats who want to keep her in the dark. The work is filled with lots of drama and action as Faith and another individual work together trying to expose a conspiracy that no amount of red tape can cover up.

The story's drawback is that the bad guy's scheme is a bit way over the top as the author tries to convince us that this guy had everything planned from 30 years ago. It's a bit hard to swallow. But you still may want to give this work a try. It is worth the time.
