In the suburb of Swinley Dean there is a home known as the Crooked House. The patriarch, Aristide Leonides, has been poisoned to death and his murder yet remains unsolved. What makes this story even sadder is that the people living in Crooked House suspect each other and nobody can be straight with each other. All this will come to an end within the next few days.

Sophia Leonides is tired of all of this as she reveals her family secrets to her boyfriend, criminologist Charles Hayward. Sophia declines his wedding proposal until she can learn the truth in the murder of Aristide. She invites Charles to come to the house where he can perform an undercover operation inside her family estate trying to find out what really happened.

He is not sure what to expect but he agrees to perform her request. When Sophia's little sister is gravely injured by a booby-trapped door he knows that there is something bad living in the house and he needs to expose it. One person knows the truth and is hiding in plain sight. Once Charles makes the discovery he will get something he never expected -- an insight into the true nature of evil.

Once again, veteran actor Hugh Fraser provides the voices in this unabridged recording of Agatha Christie's classic novel. He makes it easy for readers to distinguish each one of the characters by the distinct personality the actor gives each one of them. Christie creates a unique twist inside this story, first published in 1949. Now, many writers and movie directors have stolen this plot device and used it again and again in some celebrated movies and novels. All one needs to do is read (or listen) to an Agatha Christie novel to learn why there are so many imitators out there today. She is a true original.
