Nineteen year old Ryan Azarcon was just voted the ³Hot #1 Bachelor² on the EarthHub space station Austro. Ryanıs father is the notorious Cairo Azarcon, captain of the deep space craft Macedon and his grandfather is an admiral and diplomat. Because of this, Ryan spent his whole life in the publicıs eye.

After visiting Earth and witnessing the bombing and carnage of his grandfatherıs embassy, Ryan returned to Austro to try to forget those memories.

Earth has been at war with an alien race, the Strits, for 20 years and now his father is trying to negotiate a peace agreement between the two worlds. Most of the EarthHub isnıt happy about it, since they feel the Strits arenıt to be trusted. Because of Captain Azarconıs unpopular negotiations, Ryan is targeted to be killed by assassins. Even though Ryan and his mother protest it, Captain Azarcon orders Ryan to live on the Macedon for his own protection.

Living aboard the spacecraft, Ryan starts to learn things about his fatherıs mysterious past which finally helps the nineteen year-old to grow up.

BURNDIVE is the second in this series by author Karin Lowachee. Much to my great surprise I found it to be more than just a science fiction story. Ms. Lowachee has taken the world as we now know it and pushed it hundreds of years in the future. Sheıs populated our world with people and words that, at first glance, appear to be different from our own, but after visiting it for a while you realize that itıs very similar.

Some of the language seems very different and unlike ours at first, but when you think about it, itıs the equivalent to our language. For instance the Send is the Internet, Creds is money, Symps are alien sympathizers, and the Medees are media people. The author made sure that it was easy to understand this new language.

BURNDIVE is filled with remarkable and fascinating characters, Cairo Azarcon being the best. We also meet Ryanıs mother, Song, his grandparents, and Timothy Sidney, the marine who had been assigned to protect Ryan for the last seven years. Thereıs a full cast of alien sympathizers, pirates, and the Captain of the alien ship.

Iım surprised that I enjoyed this book as much as I did because I donıt consider myself a Sci-Fi reader. I found the story absolutely captivating. Reading about life on the space station and what life is like on Earth in this time period intrigued me completely and I especially enjoyed Ms. Lowacheeıs take on what the spacecraft was like. The story line will pull you in and there are some terrific action scenes.

If youıre a science fiction fan I suggest you pick up BURNDIVE. If you think that science fiction isnıt your cup of tea, then I would definitely urge you read this story. Youıll be pleasantly surprised with this book. Itıs terrific!
