Jessie Arnold is beginning to feel sorry for herself in her new cabin. It's the beginning of autumn. The torn knee tendon she sustained has not healed completely and she has been forbidden to train or race her dogs this winter. A friend has taken most of her dogs to his yard to train and run them.

A friend phones her to please come and help at the Iditarod booth at the Alaska State Fair, so Jessie happily takes Tank, her lead dog, and drives to the fair. She spends the day happily answering questions, allowing Tank to be petted, and generally forgetting about most of her problems for the day. Danny Tabor, a 10 year old boy, who is at the fair with friends (against the express orders of his parents), is one of those who stops by and talks with Jessie.

That night, Danny decides he better not go home so he hides under a table in the small animal room of the livestock exhibit. Frank Monroe, a senior who has escaped from the senior center, is already there. Frank has had the foresight to bring some food and water and she shares with the young boy.

The next morning, a man is found dead in a pond on the grounds and Danny and Frank recognize him. Later that morning, Jessie leaves Tank at the booth while she explores some of the animal exhibits. When she returns, it is discovered that Tank is missing.

Henry has used an interesting technique in DEATH TRAP. All those involved in the adventure are gathered at the new cabin and the story is told by each in turn, so that we know, from the beginning, that all those involved have survived. This book is perhaps more character driven than most of those in the series, and is a welcome addition to it.
