This is a collection of four short stories published for the first time together.

In " Red Butte Showdown" there is a struggle to keep a piece of land from the hands of a crooked rancher. In "Friend of a Hero" a detective tries to find the truth of a man's death in a small town. "Ghost Fighter" the world of a prize fighter is changed when the scheme of a look-a-like taking the place of the champ in the ring is uncovered with unexpected results. In "Wings Over Brazil" a plot for the Nazi takeover of Brazil is uncovered when a ship is stolen.

These are entertaining stories written by a skillful author. The style of the four stories is diverse. L'Amour deviates from his signature western style to cast three of the stories in the style of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Ernest Hemingway and Jack London. The stories are all enjoyable and well told, but L'Amour is at his best in evoking the setting and spirit of the Western frontier. The stories are well narrated by John Bedford Lloyd.
