Maxi Poole was a Los Angeles TV reporter. She looked at her ex-husband, who just happened to be dead!

This reporter, on assignment at her ex-husband's funeral, could stand out in a crowd with her 5 foot 8 inch stature and her bright mini skirt. She was another ex-wife who was once again reminded how unpopular the deceased had been. He was an Oscar winning actor but those in attendance at his funeral could not act well enough to register authentic grief.

Maxi had only been married to Jack for less than a year. He had done an exemplary job in courtship but failed miserably after the wedding vows were spoken.

First wife, Debra, an Italian beauty, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Her fingerprints were on the gun that killed Jack. I liked Gia, Debra's daughter. Gia's daily routine was difficult, what with just having a father killed.

This was a lot for a ten year old child to handle and difficulties manifested themselves in her school and social setting.

Throughout the book, we try to pinpoint the murderer. There are so many candidates. Jack was a sleazy person. Often promising his multitude of paramours with possible movie careers, he was easy to dislike, even though we never personally met him. The current wife, Janet, and the two ex-wives, Debra and Maxi, are not terribly saddened by this murder. They have a great deal in common.

Strange happenings commence when someone who is dressed in black begins to attack the people who have been close to Jack. Maxi's life is in jeopardy. Infidelity, murder, suicide, sex and drugs are all subjects that are included in this story.

I especially liked the peek into the newsroom. The author, Kelly Lange, is a news broadcast reporter in Los Angeles and brings her expertise to the forefront. I also liked the way Maxi Poole absolutely adored her dog, Yukon.

A fast paced mystery that boosts the first installment of a series, I enjoyed the experience.
