When you dream about the mystery unraveling in the book you are reading, you can be pretty certain it is a great book. Yes, even in my sleep I was trying to solve the mystery presented in NO SECOND CHANCE. Dr. Marc Seidman is a plastic surgeon. He lives with his wife, Monica and his infant daughter, Tara. Marc is not the type of plastic surgeon you normally think of when you hear the term. Marc does facial reconstruction on children and adults who have been injured or who were born with facial deformities. He could make a lot more money doing the conventional type of plastic surgery, but he loves what he does for a living. The last thing Marc remembered was standing in the kitchen eating a granola bar. Then, he wakes up in the hospital to find that he has been unconscious for 12 days. All indications were that he would not live. He had been shot and the shooter had left him for dead. But even worse than all that, he discovers that his wife has been murdered and Tara has disappeared. After some investigation that leads nowhere, the police and FBI choose him as their number one suspect. Marc’s father-in-law is very wealthy and the ransom note for Tara came to him. After the money drop is botched and Tara can’t be found, the police gradually give up, assuming the child is dead. Marc believes that Tara is alive – somewhere and he will not give up until her finds her. But is he only fooling himself? This book is riveting! The author leads you into the story and won’t let go! Like I said, it even followed me into my dreams. I thought I had worked out at least part of the mystery while I slept. Naturally, I was wrong. But it sure kept the old brain cells working overtime. Great story by a really great author!
