Milton "Scotty" Bradley is a personal trainer, go-go bar dancer, psychic, New Orleans native, pagan, homosexual and is really pumped that Southern Decadence is about to begin, because he is sure he can find some sexy man to take to bed. He has a pretty good life. At 29, he has an apartment in a building owned by a lesbian couple, his aunties, who live on the floor below him and keep and eye on him. His stoner hippy parents accept him for what he is and his siblings, Rain and Storm, will also rally round if he needs help.

He has managed to keep his paranormal abilities from most of his acquaintances but on his way to the bar one night, he zones out on an awful scene of death and destruction. He hears screams and sees flames and smoke, but cannot determine where or when this will happen. He shrugs it off, goes to the bar, dances 'til 2 AM and takes one of the other dancers home with him.

One of his clients is found murdered in front of the gate to his apartment, and he finds a computer disc stuck down his boot. This leads to a tale of political corruption, religious extremism, and a nest of unwashed right wing neo-nazi ignoramuses that could only breed in Louisiana.

Herren has created memorable characters in a story that could only take place in New Orleans, with its apparent acceptance of the gay life style, its fascination with the occult, and the corruption of its political system. This is the first in a series. The second will be published in the Spring of 2004. I look forward to spending more time with Scotty but I do hope finds a nice man and settles down.
