Peter Neil has had his share of trouble and worries recently. First he breaks off with his girlfriend, Ellen Goodman, because she was having a relationship with Peterıs boss. Peter quits his job because of this. Then his mother, Hannah, is killed in a car accident. Now Peter is out of a job and needs money.  Heıs still grieving over his motherıs death which he thinks wasnıt an accident at all. Something strange was going on with Hannah before her death. She was unhappy with her job working in a law firm which was owned by Jason Ayres a childhood friend. Hannah had mentioned something to Peter about people getting away with things, but she was never specific.

Shortly before Hannah died, a financial office was bombed. Many people were killed, including the person who put the bomb in the office. A few days after the explosion, Stan Drucker, money manager for the very lucrative Stenman Partnerıs Firm, tied explosives to his body and blew himself up.

Little did Peter suspect that his motherıs death was connected to these two incidents.

Just when Peter thought he would have to sell his motherıs home to get some much needed money, the old family friend, Jason Ayers, was able to get him a job at Stenman Partners as a broker. Peter thought this was strange, he didnıt know anything about the financial industry.

Stenman Partners managed billions of dollars and made themselves very wealthy at the same time. It was run by Morgan Stenman, the most powerful woman in the finance world. Jason Ayersı firm was her legal representation and Peter figured that he got the job there because of the relationship between the two companies.

When Peter arrived at Stenman Partners on his first day, he was given a polygraph and strangely enough most of the questions were about his mother. The firm wanted to know if Hannah had told or had given him anything before her death. Peter thought that the questions were odd but the company was starting him with a $75,000 a year salary which would go up to $100,000 after a month, so he dismissed any of his doubts or questions.

Things were going well with Peter at first. He started dating Katie Ayers, Jasonıs daughter and had more money than he knew what to do with. He also made a new friend, Stuart Grimes and on his recommendation planned to move into Stuartıs brand new expensive condominium complex. The move came just in time. Peterıs old apartment was robbed the night before his move and Peter was hit over the head by the thieves. When he came to, he discovered that his old microwave oven, used dirty bed sheets, and some of his dishes were stolen.

After a few months at Stenman Partners, Peter is contacted by Securities and Exchange Commission Agent, Oliver Dawson who tries to convince him that his mother was murdered and asks for Peterıs help in an investigation of Stenman Partners. Peter doesnıt believe Agent Dawsonıs accusations until he notices that he is being followed by Stenman Partners.

MAN IN THE MIDDLEıs story line is a quite complicated one,but once you sort it out you will discover that this is a first-rate thriller. Author Ken Morris dwells a bit too much on the specifics of the financial world which might be very confusing to those readers who donıt know much about Wall Street. But Iım glad to say that there is no test on the subject matter and if you more or less glide over the financial industry areas of the book, you will still understand the story.

The author has created some fabulous and well formed characters for this novel. I especially liked Peterıs boss, Howard Muller, an exceedingly mean and nasty person.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE turned out to be an action packed and fast paced read! Itıs definitely a book for any reader who likes well written thrillers.
