Things are changing in the Welsh town of Llanfair. Constable Evan Evans has moved out of Mrs. Williamıs home (and away from her wonderful food) into his own place. His girlfriend, Bronwen, wonıt make a commitment until Evan has lived on his own. Evans chief inspector is cost cutting and has assigned a motor bike to Evan to make it easier to cover his expanded territory. Heıs even having to work on weekends. Betsy, the barmaid at the Red Dragon pub, has left her pub job and taken work at the Sacred Grove, a New Age center complete with a famous psychic and a Druid priestess. Betsy may have inherited the gift of ³sight² from her grandmother and is excited by the idea of having her psychic abilities tested and ³seeing things².

Evan is asked to circulate the poster of a missing American girl to the youth hostels in the area. Then the famous American psychic Randy Wunderlich disappears from the Sacred Grove. Betsy has a dream and ³sees² Randy in a cave. Unfortunately, Randy is dead and Evan once again finds himself in the midst of a murder investigation.

The things that make this series so appealing to me are the Welsh setting in Llanfair and the varied and appealing quirky local characters. EVANS TO BETSY was set for the most part at the Sacred Grove. Even the effervescent Betsy seemed subdued. Bowen continues to weave plot lines successfully. Jumping from one place (Sacred Grove) to another (Llanfair or headquarters at Caernarfon) scatters the tension.

For those new to this cozy series, this sixth novel is not the place to start. Big changes are hinted at for Evan in his job and his personal life.
