Antique picker and ex-FBI agent Jeff Talbot is expecting to spend a leisurely weekend with four fishing buddies far from the hustle and bustle of Seattle, Washington. What he gets instead is a weekend marked by murder and kidnapping.

Bill Rhodes owns the Northwest Territory Bait and Tackle Shop. An avid collector of fishing lures, Bill is found dead on the floor of his store by Jeff and Seattle district court judge Richard Larrabee. Bill is surrounded by fish from his over turned aquarium, some of them dead and some still fighting to stay alive. Next to his body is found a three-pronged antique fishing spear. Sheriff Colleen McIvers quickly accepts Jeff's offer of help in the case. Bill's none-too-sorrowful widow is eager to sell her husband's fishing lures, and Jeff is the right person to price the collection. Judge Larrabee is just as eager to buy the assortment, as is another fishing buddy, Sam Carver. But Jeff suspects that the lures may have something to do with Bill's death after Vanessa "Val" Valentine tells him of an incident involving Bill and an online auction site. Jeff downloads Bill's computer records and forwards them to his wife. Sheila Talbot is an agoraphobic who never leaves home, but she's a whiz with the computer and may be able to make sense of the various links Bill had bookmarked.

Unfortunately, someone breaks into the Talbot house and kidnaps Sheila before either she or Jeff can examine the records. Jeff calls on Judge Larrabee for help when he finds Sheila missing from home, then begins searching the neighborhood on his own. Aided by FBI agent Gordon Easthope and Sheriff McIvers, he tracks down a corporation involved in internet auctions of stolen goods. Given that lead, Jeff quickly deduces the identity of Sheila's kidnapper. He returns to the scene of Bill's murder and winds up in a bloody showdown with an unscrupulous killer.

The title of Deborah Morgan's latest book refers to a specific type of fishing lure that lies at the heart of this fast-paced mystery. As with her first novel, Morgan once again treats readers to a wealth of information on various antiques while spinning a captivating story of greed and deception. The Weedless Widow is a must read for mystery fans and antique collectors alike.
