Betsy Edwards is the barmaid at the Red Dragon in Llanfair, the Welsh village patrolled by Constable Evan Evans. An American graduate student researching psychic ability among the Celts meets Betsy and believes her to have considerable psychic abilities. She offers to take Betsy to the nearby Sacred Grove New Age center to be tested by the famous psychic Randy Wunderlich. Betsy quits her job and takes another at the Sacred Grove center in order to be trained in the use of her talent. Constable Evans, meanwhile, visits the center to look for a missing student. Soon after, Wunderlich disappears. Betsy dreams of him lying in a cave, and persuades Evans to help her look for him. They find him dead in a cave on the Sacred Grove property. The murderer could be the victim's wife, stepson, the Druid priestess, the former partner, or the housekeeper, among others.

The Constable Evans series is a comfortable series, rather like your favorite chair. The interesting characters of Llanfair that readers have come to know are not as prominent in this book (except for Betsy), but they get a few moments to shine. For example, Evans the postman as well as Evans the constable get motorcycles so they can expand their territory in a government cost-saving measure. Fortunately no one gets hurt... at least not on a motorcycle. Evans to Betsy is a fun addition to an enjoyable series.
