Ellery Adams creates settings you want to visit and characters you want to meet. She describes the bibliophile resort, Storyton Hall, as a fascinating place. And she makes the family that owns Storyton Hall and the staff that cares for the resort sound like warm and engaging individuals.

In the 8th Book Retreat Mystery at Storyton Hall, a greeting card company is holding a contest for a writing contract. Unfortunately, a couple of murders complicate the competition, leading Jane Seward to add sleuthing to her schedule along with the upcoming wedding of her best friend, Eloise Alcott.

Jane's Aunt Octavia and Uncle Aloysius provide diversion, along with her twin sons, Fitzgerald and Hemingway. The extended family includes the Fins, a team of staff professionals who help keep Storyton Hall secure, and the Cover Girls Book Club members who assist Jane's sleuthing activities. And the relationship between Jane and Edwin continues to deepen. In this adventure, secret passages are discovered in Storyton Hall, a set of original, handwritten Walt Whitman poems disappears, and two contestants are murdered.

As Jane enlists the help of staff, friends, and family to sort out motives and opportunities for her list of suspects, the author offers plenty of red herrings and twists while keeping a quick pace. Readers grow quite comfortable visiting Storyton Hall and catching up with the friendly folks who make spending time with them another fascinating experience.
