When Tulia calls Mac and begs her to come to the Lobstah Shack right away, Mackenzie Almeida rushes to Tulia Peters' seafood restaurant to find Annette DiCicero dead in the walk-in cooler. Urging Tulia to call the police, Tulia worries about the public argument she had with Annette over renaming Columbus Day.

Mac dials 9-1-1 and reports the crime.

Both Mac and Tulia are members of the Cozy Capers Book Group, a collection of mystery readers who meet to discuss books and often try to help in local crime-solving. Other members include head librarian Flo Wolanski; retired police chief Norland Gifford; Zane King, who owns Cape King Distillery; and Gin Malloy, who owns Salty Taffy's.

Since Tulia found the body, she is a person of interest, but so are others. Reports that her husband Phil is verbally abusive emerge. Doris Sanderson and Elenia Rodrigues both have a questionable history with Annette in the beauty contest world. Ogden Hicks, Phil's business partner, needs money, and Annette kept the store's books.

While discussing the case with her boyfriend, Tim Brunelle, the owner of Greta's Grains Bakery, the conversation takes a surprising turn, and Mac proposes to Tim. The latter happens to have a ring that formalizes the engagement. So now Mac finds herself planning a wedding and collecting clues to identify who killed Annette and put her body in Tulia's restaurant cooler.

Maddie Day creates an appealing community, populates Westham with engaging characters, and concocts a fascinating mystery with red herrings and plenty of suspense. Mac's parrot Belle continues to entertain as she speaks her mind, which often elicits a chuckle. Murder at the Lobstah Shack is a strong entry in this series and is a story well told.
