This novel starts with Addison celebrating her engagement with Gabriel. While Gabriel's family – mother, father, and sister – welcomes Addison, the fact remains that Addison does not remember her life before two years ago. The assumption is that Addison suffers from psychological trauma.

Next, Dr. Julian Hunter comforts his daughter Valentina about her missing mother and his wife, Cassandra. Two years ago, Cassandra disappeared without a trace, leaving her wallet, phone, and any ID in their house in Brookline, near Boston.

Constantine organizes the book by chapters, with each chapter offering a specific character's account of events and observations as the story progresses through their perspective.

Julian travels to Philadelphia for a conference and discovers his wife Cassandra is now Addison Hope. After Julian proves Addison is Cassandra, she agrees to go home with him.

Once Cassandra becomes somewhat acclimated, she begins hearing voices, missing items, and finding things that are not hers in her possession. She resumes taking medication to help her deal with past abuse from her ex-husband before her divorce. She also sees a therapist to help with her missing memories and mental issues.

Constantine is the pen name for two sisters whose storytelling skills are mind-blowing, at least if this book is any example. At this point, Part III, 4 Years Earlier, begins and, let us hope, no reviewer reveals anything further. Other authors label this book "diabolical," "twisty, chilling, and hypnotic," and "psychologically compelling." The background for what happens to Cassandra/Addison is not only unexpected but cleverly constructed to arouse emotional impact and even shock. And Constantine fabricates a most convincing case – one that is unforgettable.
