The tension in this mystery is palpable from the first page. Immediately, BA Paris draws her readers into the highly charged domestic scene of Jack and Grace, a newly married couple who appear to have it all. Jack's a lawyer who's never lost a case, while championing the rights of domestically abused women. Grace is a stay-at-home wife, who once had a successful career as a buyer for Harrod's.

Grace, too, is a champion of others, in this case, her sister Millie, who has Down's syndrome and goes to a private school. Before Jack came along, Grace never thought she'd marry and was instead happy to celebrate life with her sister. When Jack embraced her sister's differentness, Grace knew she'd found the perfect man. How, then, did everything go so wrong?

Grace, as soon becomes apparent, is in for some rude surprises. Yet, she manages to keep it all under control as long as she can keep her sister safe. But the clock is ticking, as Millie will come to live with the couple once her schooling is finished, and Grace must come up with a new plan before that can occur.

Just how Grace faces her oppressor and how she manages to get help along the way are the essence of this anxiety-filled tale. That the author is able to plunge her readers into the middle of this situation and enable them to feel what her main character does is a testament to her writing style. Never will readers celebrate an ending like this one, even though they can see it coming a mile away.
