There's no denying that pets become part of the family, and those who take care of them (veterinarians) can often play a role in our lives as well. Having dedicated more than twenty years of her own life to caring for animals makes new mystery author Eileen Brady particularly suited to craft this new series featuring vet Kate Turner.

Turner is newly arrived at her position, filling in for the local doctor who has taken a year off to travel around the world. Just months into her new job, Turner goes to check on the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel show dogs of an elderly couple in town. When she arrives, she finds all of the dogs uncharacteristically running loose and the couple dead in their living room. Did the husband murder his wife and then commit suicide, or something more sinister going on?

Turner could swear that someone switched out the prize-winning dog with another, but she has no proof, and it turns out that the elderly couple have more than a few enemies in town. As soon as Kate settles on one likely suspect, another seems to pop up. Things could turn out even more deadly before the dust settles on the case.

This charming new cozy is part of what promises to be a longer series by the author. It's clear from MUZZLED that Brady has plenty of animal war stories to tell, given her own years as a vet, and she integrates her knowledge into the storyline in a most enjoyable fashion.
