PERFECT STORM

Beth Rivers' kidnapper, Travis Walker, escapes from jail and is on his way to Alaska to kill Beth. When Beth recovered from her original kidnapping, she moved to Benedict, Alaska, where she felt safe and somewhat hidden. While her friends in Benedict want to keep her protected, she decides to go with her boyfriend Tex on a camping trip where it will be more difficult for Travis to find them.

On their way to a wilderness campsite, the couple runs into Jin, leading a horse with her husband's body strapped to it. Jin, a Blue Mine resident, shares her intent to get Police Chief Gril to help with the three recent deaths in her community. Her husband's body is the most recent victim for the Sheriff to examine. Blue Mine residents also report sightings of a creature – "seven feet, brown fur, claws, long beard, furry face"- according to Jin.

Beth and Tex decide to return with Jin, helping her when a strong storm brings rain and flooding on their way back. While Tex and Beth get separated from Jin, they finally get up with Gril and fill him in the situation with Jin. A surprise for Beth when she returns to Benedict is discovering that her mother, Mill, has returned to help protect her from Travis. Travis left a note in his cell that said all he wanted to do was find Beth and kill her.

Meanwhile, Gril travels to Blue Mine to assess the situation and question the residents about the deaths and the creature sightings. Complicating matters is the revelation that the dead body Jin had is Peter Murray, a Benedict resident who disappeared a couple of months before.

Paige Shelton weaves the two distinct storylines – murders in Blue Mine and protecting Beth - into a compelling, complex mystery that ends with a very intriguing reveal, maybe even a cliffhanger.
