Police discover Giovanni Rossi's dead body in the back of a limo, clutching Eve Dallas' business card. A note promising vengeance on The Twelve accompanies the business card.

Rossi is a member The Twelve, a secret group that operated during the Urban Wars in the 2020s. An old colleague summons him to New York, where he succumbs to poison gas in the limo that picked him up at the airport. As Dallas, Roark, and the homicide team begin identifying The Twelve, Eve and Roark are surprised to find that Summerset is one of the group. And they discover three members are already dead.

Due to the death threats, which now include Dallas, the remaining group moves into Roark and Eve's home for safety reasons. The group pools their knowledge and resources to identify the killer and determine the best way to trap them. The primary suspect is familiar to The Twelve members, who are determined to find him. J. D. Robb writes a compelling narrative describing this comprehensive investigation in fascinating detail.

In this 60th installment of the "In Death" mysteries, fans finally get the intriguing details of Summerset's backstory. The most interesting aspect of this particular plot is how the relationship between Eve and Summerset shifts. Eve's investigation relies heavily on input from the remaining members of The Twelve. And Summerset and his colleagues must trust Eve, which has been somewhat of a challenge for Summerset over the years. Since all the players have special skills, a bit of testing each other's expertise offers insight into the various individuals.

Ms. Robb creates a fascinating tale that incorporates all the familiar characters in this series as they interact with the balance of The Twelve to solve this case. The author's imagination and skill provide a stunning, excellent account of a most challenging mystery. BONDED IN DEATH is a great read and a masterful addition to the series.
