Nora Penington, the owner of Miracle Books, sets out to deliver a few books to Lucille Wynter, her most eccentric and unusual customer. Nora typically met with Lucille in her boot room at Wynter House and had never been inside the house itself. Lucille was a recluse, old and frail, living in what the community considered a "crumbling estate."

Because Lucille expects her, Nora usually knocks on the door and Lucille invites her in. After vigorous knocking, there is no answer. When Nora calls on her cell phone, someone finally picks up: Lucille's faint response, "Help me, please." Nora calls 911 before breaking into the house, only to find Lucille dead at the bottom of the main staircase.

As the mystery unfolds, a policeman hands Nora an envelope with her name as she leaves to go home. Inside, a note from Lucille and a small brown book entitled "The Lost Library" by Hugo Wynter. This marks the beginning of a captivating mystery involving murder and a tapestry of clues written in verse, describing hidden objects throughout Wynter House.

Nora meets Lucille's son, Beck, and he asks for her help in evaluating the books – thousands of them – found inside the mansion and consulting on selling those of any value. Nora suggests that her friend Bea help with the overall cleanup of Wynter House and the disposition of furnishings and books.

In the meantime, while Nora decides to follow the clues in the little book and begins to find hints of a valuable collection, the Sheriff looks for the person who killed Lucille. Then Nora is warned to stop nosing around, and someone sets fire to her home, almost destroying it.

THE LITTLE LOST LIBRARY is an extraordinary read that combines compelling elements of a cozy mystery with the intriguing pursuit of a puzzle designed by the original owner of Wynter House to lead to a "little" treasure. The details will keep bibliophiles pouring over the pages. Ellery Adams writes a fantastic tale – and the best so far - in this seventh title of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society series.
