Riley Sparks is intrigued by an ad reading, "Wedding Dress for Sale: Never Worn." It seems the groom never showed up for the wedding, although he did make the rehearsal dinner. And he hasn't been seen since. His mother waited quite some time before filing a missing persons report; the woman he left at the altar is distraught, but not quite as much as Riley anticipated. Her mother just wants the whole scandal to go away.

Riley's boss wants Riley to focus on an altogether different story. Someone has swiped a locally famous bass, just before the big tournament. Riley is supposed to track down the missing fish, and make the hunt interesting to the TV viewers.

Riley is dog-sitting a drug-sniffing dog targeted by a local meth cartel because he seriously cuts into their profits. This brings some excitement into her life, not that she's looking for that kind of fun. She's also got a neighbor who has a perennial garage sale, not that anything he's selling seems to be worth buying.

Kramer has written a very enjoyable mystery. Riley is far less angst-ridden than another television investigative reporter currently hot in the mystery field. She is determined, which is a good thing, but sometimes she is too focused on HER story to see the stories going on all around her. She is persistent, another good quality in an investigative reporter, and she persists in ways that work around her boss. This seems to be a common trend in the field, and perhaps it is; we all learn to look like we're doing what the boss wants while we're really pursuing our own agendas - at least once in a while. Riley is an interesting character, a woman I think I'd like to know. The plot works, the setting doesn't get in the way of the story, and we get an ending we can pretty much live with. MISSING MARK is the second in the series; I am looking forward to reading more about Riley and her adventures.
