Senator William Davis Broderick is attempting to pass a radical bill. He plans to introduce it in three stages: Stage 1 calls for all Muslims in the US who are not citizens of the US to be 'shipped home'; Stage 2 calls for the limitation – i.e. termination – of future visits from people living in Muslim countries; and Stage 3, calls for background checks on all American Muslims regardless of whether there is justifiable cause or not. Admittedly Broderick has not announced all three stages to the public yet; however, the support for this bill is astonishing. Normally such extreme proposals would not get anywhere; however, the situation in Washington and in the United States in general indicates that there might be popular support.

Muslim men have been responsible for a string of attacks against America. These attacks include an aborted attempt to blow up a tunnel and the attempt to crash a plane into the White House. Speaker of the House John Mahoney finds it suspicious that these attacks are occurring just as Broderick is flogging his bill, especially since the son of an old friend was the pilot in the White House attempt. Mahoney cannot believe that Reza Zarif had connections to the Taliban, would kill his wife and children or would attempt to destroy the White House. To this end, he asks Congressional liaison Joe DeMarco to investigate.

DeMarco is Mahoney's fix-it guy. He is a lawyer who does not practice law and he has a somewhat shady reputation. DeMarco quickly comes to question the official reports of these attacks. A lot of the higher ranks in Homeland Security and the other departments responsible for stopping the attacks are not willing to assist DeMarco in his investigations. The men who had stopped the attacks are suddenly making large purchases and then they all seem to die when DeMarco takes an interest in them.

Joe DeMarco must make use of his various contacts; Miranda Bloom, a former lobbyist; Emma, a woman with insider information; and Fat Neil, one of Emma's technology gurus. They must get to the truth about the attacks before Broderick's bill is passed by the fearful, or other attacks are attempted, or they lose their own lives.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL shares many of the same characteristics of several best selling American thrillers. This book contains several conspiracies, some mindless action and a well-plotted story. Admittedly the paranoia surrounding Muslims and 9-11 is an overused storyline; however, Lawson manages to add some originality to such a clichéd topic. Fans of action thrillers should keep an eye out for the US release of this book, as it will likely satisfy. It will appear in June of next year under the title HOUSE RULES.
