Sarah Booth Delaney trades her Mississippi home for the lights of Hollywood when she‛s chosen to star in a movie with her old heartthrob Graf Milieu. Handsome Graf is fast replacing Sheriff Coleman Peters as the love of Sarah‛s life, and Jitty, the family ghost, couldn‛t be happier. Jitty is bound and determined to see Sarah produce a Delaney heir. If it takes a Hollywood movie to force the young woman into marriage, so be it.

Sarah‛s best friend Tinkie is equally happy for her, but for other reasons. Coleman‛s sense of honor leaves him tied to his conniving wife and unable to commit to Sarah. Knowing the situation with Coleman, and Sarah‛s love of the theater, Tinkie encourages her to give both Graf and Hollywood a chance.

But Hollywood can be a dangerous place. First an actress dies mysteriously near Graf‛s beach house. Then, when the cast relocates to Costa Rica for filming, strange accidents befall Sarah and other members of the company. It looks like the movie is cursed with bad luck. Knowing how easily rumors of doom and gloom can kill a picture, Sarah takes it upon herself to investigate the unfortunate occurrences. Her snooping leads her to believe two women are behind the accidents, one woman, one a live human while the other is a ghost. Aided by Tinkie and her other hometown friends, Sarah tackles what may be the strangest case in her growing career as a crime solver.

Carolyn Haines takes her wonderful characters down an intriguingly new path in this latest mystery in the Sarah Booth Delaney series. Ghostly happenings abound even as Sarah Booth and her buddies enjoy the delights of their Costa Rican adventure. Jitty is as wacky as ever, but she remains the guiding light for Sarah‛s conscience, forcing the heroine to face unpleasant truths and look inside herself for answers. Sarah‛s romantic future seems assured until a twist at the end throws the whole matter up for grabs once more. Will Sarah stay in Hollywood with the man she‛s grown to love, or will Coleman win Sarah‛s heart in the end? The answer to these questions seems destined to be answered in Haines‛ next book, which can‛t come too soon for fans of this fine Southern writer.
