Successful Floridian hairdresser Marla Shore is on a cruise to Mexico with her fiancée, Florida homicide detective Dalton Vail, his daughter and his parents, who paid for the trip. At first she's a bit afraid that there will be tension between them, after all they will be deciding if Marla will make a good parent for their grandchild, but right away Marla feels nothing but warmest regards from the couple.

As she and Dalton go on board the ship and find their cabin, there's a note on the door addressed to Martha Shore, stating, "I know what you did and I have what you want." Talking to Dalton about it they dismiss the note as a mistake and someone else's and continue on to dinner where they are seated, not with his parents and daughter as expected but with people who all work for the same museum of art in Tampa. They again think that it might have to be a mix-up – especially after they discover that a woman named Martha Shore is part of the museum's group.

Marla and her crowd are all determined to have a great time sightseeing and shopping. The excitement on the ship and off on shore proves to be delightful and fatiguing and they all have the time of their lives – that is until Martha Shore doesn't make it back to the ship and no one has any idea of where she is or how she is. And then when another member of the museum group is pushed down a flight of steps, Marla becomes worried that whoever is making trouble might also target her soon to be family. That's when she starts to investigate to make certain that no one she cares about will be hurt.

I have never been on a cruise but this book by writer Nancy J Cohen has made me feel as if I have just spent time on one. The way this book has been written stimulates every sense with a constant feeling of excitement as the ship goes underway. Cohen lets the reader experience the heat and the feeling of constant movement as Marla explores all the shops and sites on their excursions on land in Mexico. Reading this book made me feel as if I were indeed living through everything with Marla and her group. It really was wonderfully written.

We also get to know a rather large forum of people right away and it's done so well that you can almost visualize each person immediately. It was also lovely to see that at least some of Marla's relatives aren't going to be critical of everything Marla does. One set of relations, at least, is going to be a pleasure to see again.

The mystery portion of this book was as a cozy should be, the violence was left to a minimum and every clue has to do with helping Marla and the readers figure out who did the deed and why.

I doubt that I will ever actually go on a cruise to Mexico – it felt too hot for me – but I do feel as if I have gotten to enjoy a great cruise experience because of reading this book. Whatever you do, don't miss KILLER KNOTS!
