MOB COPS is an inside look at one of the most explosive scandals and trials to hit the New York Police Department in a long time. The two police officers involved in this sordid tale are veteran officers Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa. Eppolito was one of the most decorated police officers in the history of the New York Police Department. A part-time actor, he appeared in such films as GOODFELLAS and BULLETS OVER BROADWAY.

Caracappa, on the other hand, was a decorated Vietnam war veteran who masterminded the creation of New York’s Organised-Crime Homicide Unit. He was also a highly-praised undercover narcotics officer. Both joined the NYPD in 1969 and both worked in New York’s Organised Crime Homicide Unit. However, while they were in fact supposed to be exposing the disreputable and dangerous Lucchese crime family they took a very different route, became paid informers, and hired killers for the family instead. They laundered money for them, distributed narcotics and committed premeditated murder on their behalf.

After their retirement to Las Vegas, they thought that their era as 'Mafia Cops' was long gone and buried. Nevertheless, they were wrong. Fifteen years later, they both found themselves in the middle of a court case that would have a rippling effect on the New York Police Department and the New York underworld.

MOB COPS is a fascinating and intriguing tale complete with photographs and in-depth detail of what happened and how deeply involved Eppolito and Caracappa were with the Lucchese family. It is evident that the author has done a lot of research and knows his way around the Mafia. The fact that the New York Police Department has a love-hate relationship with the denizens of New York makes this an even more powerful story.

A compelling and admirable book in the terms of writing, MOB COPS will be a welcome addition to the annals of books on the Mafia. This book needs to be read by all of those that love anything remotely Mafia related.
