Dana Hill is a hardworking, successful lawyer who lives in Seattle with her young daughter and husband. Things have been getting very tense lately: Her boss is trying to get her fired because she took time off to be a mother, her job needs her attention all the time, her daughter also needs her and her husband is too busy living his own life to care about Dana and their daughter.

One day Dana discovers a lump in her breast, and since her mother had breast cancer at a young age Dana goes to a doctor immediately. But before she finds out the results of the tests, she is told that her brother James Hill, a former lawyer now a teacher, has been beaten to death in his own home. Dana is devastated.

At the same time in Seattle, Robert Meyers is a rich man on the road to becoming President. He is a powerful man used to getting his way. He lords over his household, making certain that his maid, who bakes him wonderful apple pies, is as closely watched as his beautiful wife. He sees them both as his property, and he will do anything that needs to be done to keep his property.

Detective Michael Logan is put in charge of James's murder and right away he's smitten with Dana. She is beautiful and bright, but she seems haunted by some sort of sadness, other than her brother's death and he wants to know more about her.

After the police search James's home, Logan and Dana go to James's private cabin to look around. Accidentally, Dana discovers an earring of amazing beauty under James's bed. Perhaps it belongs to a woman James had been seeing? She hides it away certain that it has something to do with her brother's death.

Later, Dana tells Logan that she found a clue and has to go to Hawaii to uncover James's killer. Logan knows that she will be in danger and warns her off the case. He begs her to let him do his job as the police and let him solve it, but Dana is driven to help James get justice and will let nothing stop her.

DAMAGE CONTROL is a romance story dressed as a murder mystery. The relationships between the characters and action scenes take precedent over the mystery. The action-filled violent moments of this book are written in full, set in exotic locations which are described in complete detail, while the mystery is solved without any fanfare. That leaves the reader more time to think about the emotions that the characters feel for each other.

For lovers of romance with a sprinkling of mystery DAMAGE CONTROL will keep you reading.
