KILLER INSTINCT is the latest corporate thriller from Joseph Finder. This time around, we enter the world of electronics. Jason Steadman thought that he had it all. A nice steady and successful salesman's job at Entronics (a leading rival to the giant Panasonic), good work colleagues, and enough free time to play on the company's softball team.

However, his wife is of the opposite view. She would like him to move up the corporate ladder a lot faster than what he is doing now. When his wife tells him that the latest treatment of IVF has failed again a distracted Jason runs his car into a ditch. Lucky it is the car that comes off worse and not Jason.

As his car is being towed away, he finds himself befriending his tow-truck driver Kurt Semko who turns out to be an ex-special forces officer from whom he receives invaluable advice. Semko's advice leads to promotion for Jason and in return, he helps him get a job in corporate security at Entronics.

However, Jason soon realises that his new-found promotion is not due to his own hard work and luck but to Kurt's rather underhand and devious methods that start to become extremely dangerous and murderous. His attempts to rein in his once erstwhile friend put not only his life at risk but also those of his family. It is up to Jason to out-manoeuvre, double-cross and engage in brutal corporate politics if he wants to gain his life back.

As one would expect from Joseph Finder, KILLER INSTINCT has a storyline that is action-packed from the beginning. Short punchy chapters make it straightforward and very readable. However, while there are believable characters, they do at times do unbelievable things, which surprisingly add to the fast-paced tension. The story works enormously well, for what is essentially a tale of someone who lacks the killer instinct until they are pushed to the end of their tether.

KILLER INSTINCT certainly falls under the category of page-turner and it is quite easy to see why. Hidden amongst the story are object lessons and wry humour. Joseph Finder's superb writing ability and first-rate storytelling skills are what make KILLER INSTINCT the book that it is.
