FLYING TOO HIGH is the second in the Phryne Fisher series which currently numbers around 15 episodes and is becoming more available worldwide through re-publication. Written by Kerry Greenwood, they are set in her native Australia in the 1920s and are a naughty sort of historical mystery.

Phryne Fisher is a beautiful flapper, a vamp with an eye for a good-looking man. Inheriting a surprising and vast fortune in England, she is now living in Australia and is earning a reputation for her sleuthing skills. Word of mouth leads Mrs McNaughten to consult her about a fearsome situation between her husband and son which she worries will lead to the death of her spouse. Seeing little that she can do, Phryne does at least visit the son Bill at his flying school to persuade him to shield his mother from any arguments that he may have with his father.

A trip to the flying school also permits Phryne to indulge herself with a little aerobatic adventure and she wins a few admirers including Jack Leonard. So when a few days later he learns that a friend's child has been kidnapped for ransom, Jack remembers Phryne and asks for her assistance. Together with the child's parents, her loyal maid Dot, and some pilot friends, Phryne devises a plan to locate and rescue the child.

Meanwhile, one of the McNaughten family is apparently murdered and Phryne is called in as a consultant to liaise with the police investigating the case, and becomes a support for the dysfunctional family. This also brings her into contact with the local art movement and presents an opportunity or two for some very unprofessional behaviour.

Sexy, madcap, and set in an interesting time period, FLYING TOO HIGH is a mystery with glamour, high fashion and some interesting historical insights. It's a traditional mystery with a smart and unconventional heroine; pure escapism and is a lot of naughty fun.
