Wouldn't you be flabbergasted and annoyed if you woke up and found someone you did not know dead on one of the chairs on your roof? Well that is exactly how Vancouver commercial photographer Tom McCall feels the day after his 40th birthday party on his floating home.

Hoping to avoid being accused of murder, McCall immediately calls the police. Even though the police are investigating, McCall cannot resist doing a bit of poking about of his own. Other matters complicate things -- he finds himself offering a very attractive old friend room and board when the boat she is living on is sold under her; and his daughter decides that she wants to come and stay with him for a year instead of going with her mother to Australia. With a shifty ex-client and not enough work coming in McCall reluctantly allows his sister to work in his photography studio.

Soon threats accompanied by a number of mysterious visits and visitors make both Tom and his newly-acquired roommate (who also appears to have someone stalking her) realise that trouble is afoot. What are they all looking for and why do they believe that McCall knows where the missing loot is?

OVEREXPOSED is a book that is full of action, humour, and memorable characters. The area of Vancouver being portrayed is also very well drawn and vibrant. The characters very easily take on a life of their own with snappy dialogue and witty comebacks. Tom McCall, the main protagonist, is a charming and droll individual. The author has also has a strong narrative voice which makes this book a very interesting read.

This is the second book in the Granville Island mystery series and it is one of those series that creeps up on you over time until you suddenly become conscious of the fact that the series has in fact grown on you and is not one to be missed.
