Regan Landry, best-selling author of true crime books, is looking for an idea for her next book. Her father Josh Landry was also an author of true crime. Since his untimely death, Regan has put off going through his things, but she has decided the time has come. And, she is hoping that, just maybe, she will get some new ideas from his notes and papers. Regan is persuaded by Mitch that it's time to hire an assistant. She finds an excellent candidate in Bliss, a young graduate student. Will Bliss regret taking the job?

Needing a distraction, Regan watches a show on Court TV where the guest is a Florida attorney for a man on death row. His client, Lester Ray Barnes, was convicted of murdering a young woman. However, apparently there was faulty DNA evidence. The lab tech had lost the DNA from the woman's body and had lied on the stand that he had a match. Barnes' attorney is trying to get the conviction overturned and get Lester Ray released. Regan is interested in his story and when her boyfriend Mitch Peyton, an FBI agent gets involved in the case Regan decides there is a book here.

Regan does not know if Lester Ray was guilty of the crime he was convicted for, she just knows the system screwed up and he was convicted unfairly. When he is released, Lester is anxious to have his story told and wants the book deal. Then he inexplicably vanishes, and Regan's calls to his cell phone go unanswered. When the bodies of murdered women come to light, Regan begins to suspect that releasing Lester Ray was perhaps not such a good idea.

Regan Landry was introduced in the book COLD TRUTH. This is the fourth book in the series. Regan continues to grow as a resourceful and interesting character. She and Mitch are very much in love and devoted to each other. Regan also comes face to face with some truths about her father and her family background and has some shocking surprises.
