LOVE YOU MADLY is slice of pure escapism, a modern cozy set in the world of television. Morgan Tyler is head writer and co-producer of a daytime soap which is filmed in New York. She is also an unexpected heiress and currently living in the Dakota building. (Previously home of course to John Lennon, and also to Myron Bolitar's psycho friend Win from Harlan Coben's novels, I can't help thinking how the Dakota doormen must get to see a lot of action).

Morgan is concerned when she finds out that Link Ramsay, one of the stars of her daytime drama, Love of My Life, is being stalked by a female fan and tries to intervene. Initially the fan doesn't seem too threatening, but it emerges that this is not the first time she has done something of this sort, and as Morgan tries to find out more about her, events take a sinister turn.

For some time Morgan and the show's stars have been planning a special event for fans in Las Vegas. Increasingly worried about the threat to Link, Morgan arranges extra security for the trip, but all her efforts are thwarted and life becomes very dangerous.

Luckily Morgan has three very able suitors looking out for her in the form of an affluent crime writer, a local detective, and a mysterious Greek. They are very protective towards her, as are her female friends Penny, who is breaking into TV, and Nancy, a lawyer. I didn't find all this terribly convincing, but it didn't matter; this is a fun novel not a grittily realistic one.

LOVE YOU MADLY is an absorbing read with an interesting and unusual plot and a likeable heroine. Morgan is smart and capable, and the insights into the world of TV soaps are given a light but convincing treatment. There is a little romance too, of course, but nothing too steamy. It's a very entertaining story, that draws you in like all good soaps, and whilst thankfully it doesn't have a cliff-hanger ending, it does give an enticing trailer of what may be in store in the next episode of the series.

Linda Palmer has written two previous books in this series, LOVE IS MURDER, and LOVE HER TO DEATH which are also reviewed on this site.
