Lew Fonesca's life was radically changed after an unidentified hit-and-run driver killed his wife. Depressed, he quit his job as an investigator for the district attorney's office in Chicago. He packed all of his belongings inside his car and just drove. He wound up in Sarasota, Florida, sold his car, and settled inside a small office (which he also calls home) next door to a Dairy Queen.

For the last four years. Lew has been eking out an existence as a process server and finding people. He will do anything to help him move on from the unsolved death of his wife, even becoming numb to the experience. Unbeknownst to him, he has made a difference to the lives of some of the people he has met in Sarasota and yet, he cannot accept their acknowledgement. He denies himself almost everything that makes one a human being in order to hold on to his idealized version of his wife's life.

In DENIAL, Fonesca is working two cases. The first involves the investigation of an alleged murder inside of a nursing home, the other finding a driver responsible for vehicular homicide. These two cases take some unexpected turns, forcing Fonesca to be true to himself for what happened four years ago. It is time to make a stand and whatever he decides will affect permanently his life.

Stuart M Kaminsky does a terrific portrayal expressing the vulnerability of his main character. Inside Fonesca's life we see his interactions with the friends he made in Florida, most of them appearing in Kaminsky's three previous works featuring this man whose brand of humor and cleverness with a dash of cynicism make a great investigator. One day he will find everything that he is looking for and it will be the best thing that will ever happen to him.

Kaminsky is a great storyteller and has done a magnificent job in maintaining this series featuring Lew Fonesca. Don't be left behind. Get into some DENIAL today.
