Let me start off by saying that this book is definitely for younger aged children. I myself at 13 years of age did not enjoy this book very much. The language of the book was represented for a second or third grader, yet the length of the book (164 pages) might be too long for children that young to enjoy.

Freddy Funkhouser, the main character, lives on a farm with his dad and sister. The Funkhousers own a restaurant called the Burger Castle where all the food is scientifically changed in one way or another. Freddy makes six oversized French fries that can actually walk and talk. In the beginning Freddy thinks that the fries will help win their family the number one spot in the Founder's Day Float Competition.

The best part of this book were the characters. Each had his own strange personality. Freddy is a super smart science genius, his sister is obsessed with Shakespeare, and so on. The Fries were kind of cool characters also. Each Fry had his own kind of annoying personality, as well as his own secret strange ability. For example, Theodore, the crinkle-cut fry, was a super smart genius. Another example is Wally, the waffle fry. He is super fat, and can eat anything and everything.

One of the things in this book that I disliked most was the names of some of the characters. These names were, in my opinion, just dumb and stupid! Here are some of them -- Adam Spanker and the Spanker Family, Nanny Boo Boo, and Howie Kapowie! If the author thought that kids would find this funny, I disagree.

Another thing that I disliked, was that the story was presented very slowly and unexcitingly. For example, when Freddy's sister goes on and on about all of her chores . . . boring! All in all, this book was not very worthwhile and there are many better choices in the 11 and under category.
