For all of his life Giancarlo Lo Manto has known only one world -- that of Italian organized crime. The Camorros have terrorized everyone in Naples and they have bought most of the cops in that area. Not even immigrating to America can make a difference to the Lo Mantos; the Camorros influence extends across the Atlantic Ocean.

They try their best to live a normal life but Giancarlo's father is murdered by the mob, forcing his family to move back to Naples in the slim hope that there can be peace. Giancarlo pledges never to forget and that he will have his vengeance against those who hurt his family. All in good time.

For more than 20 years Giancarlo has worked and trained with the Neapolitan police. He has thwarted numerous attempts against his life and has stopped several Camorran criminal enterprises. He is incorruptible, relentless, and resourceful. If stopping them means doing it a piece at a time, then so be it.

Now someone in the United States has considered Giancarlo to be a threat and that it is time to kill him. The only way to do that is to lure him back to the old neighborhood and take care of him from there.

Lo Manto knows that he is going to a trap but he has no problem going back to the States. In fact, he is looking forward to it. He will end this once and for all, not realizing that even a bigger surprise awaits him, and by the time the book ends his life (or might it be his death) will never be the same.

PARADISE CITY is filled with a lot of action and suspense as well as some gratuitous killings. As a gangster book, it delivers. If there is one thing Lorenzo Carcaterra knows how to do is create a good crime novel with memorable characters. He keep everything moving at a quick pace showing the unglamorized side of organized crime and the frustration law enforcement have in stopping these criminals when everyone that matters is in the mob's pocket. Adding more would be giving the story away. Pick PARADISE CITY today -- you may be pleasantly surprised.
