In the latest entry in a long-running series, caterer Faith Fairchild is vacationing with her family at a struggling winter resort in Vermont. She is there to attend a huge family reunion, involving her in-laws, to celebrate the birthday of a Fairchild patriarch. However, as often is the case, no matter how well you are prepared, things do not go as one plans.

In the space of a long weekend Faith discovers a body in a snowdrift, someone is committing acts of sabotage at the Vermont resort, weird things are going on with Faith's son, and the hotel chef has vanished without a trace leaving the staff to fend for itself.

Whether it is in the kitchen or on the slopes, Faith does her best in a bad situation and tries to enjoy her vacation with her family. She's also used her amateur sleuthing skills in the past to help her solve murders, and by god, if she has to, she will do it again. It is unfortunate that it takes too long for the story to get to the point.

THE BODY IN THE SNOWDRIFT is a short and comfortable read that will entertain readers during a slow, humdrum day. The book's highlights are that it is not important to have read any of Ms Page's previous novels in order to get into the story. It just doesn't matter.

The family dynamics involved in a family reunion are well presented inside the story and readers can place themselves within the milieu of the novel. The problem with the book is that it takes too long to get to a cohesive story line involving the death shown at the novel's beginning. Once that is done, the rest of the story gets a bit predictable. Being that this my first exposure to this author, I'm willing to give her another shot. The book had its moments making her worth a second try.
