Japanese-American Feng Shui practitioner Salome Waterhouse has a nice life in Washington, DC. She pays her bills by giving seminars about Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese philosophy whose principles teach that the positioning and physical characteristics of a home affect the fortunes of the owner. As a side endeavor, Salome also helps solve crimes that happen in her community, not because she seeks them out but because problems tend to find her.

In EVIL INTENTIONS, the fourth installment in the Salome Waterhouse series by Denise Osborne, Salome is once again having problems with Duncan Mah, a very dangerous man who became her enemy in the second book of the series. The plot is a little complicated because much of the previous book has to be recounted, but I didn't find the retelling of the story boring. The author does a superior job in explaining how Salome met Mah and why he's out to destroy her and that makes EVIL INTENTIONS a first-rate standalone novel.

In EVIL INTENTIONS Salome goes to a woman's shelter to teach them how their lives can improve by changing where they place their beds and mirrors and by adding plants and color in their rooms. This all has little to do with the plot but the author had to add the Feng Shui to the story and it's done well. In fact, the best part of the book is the Feng Shui information and the writer does such a great job in describing the philosophy that it will inspire you to try a little of it yourself.

All in all, EVIL INTENTIONS is a good read and will happily get you through a rainy weekend. Salome and all the characters are very likable and I'm happy to say that Ms Osborne has now included Salome's ex-husband in the mix. Even though EVIL INTENTIONS takes some of its plot from the previous book, I still highly recommend it to cozy lovers everywhere.
