Clyde Colby is a well-known television personality in Florida. She (yes, she) hosts her own cooking show where she provides culinary delights to her viewers as she interviews some of the best restaurant chefs in the state.

Currently she is staying at the Far Horizons hotel where she plans to tape a series of segments with the hotel's chef but things are not going as smoothly as she would like. It almost seems that the hotel management is anxious for her to go away and let them be their merry way. Clyde learns that Far Horizons has a notorious past where guests have been dying in mysterious ways as well as other weird happenings that keep going on.

A woman with the name of Clyde is not a pushover and as a former crime reporter she is determined to find out what is going on at the hotel, after two of the people she meets die under mysterious circumstances. The book is filled with a great number of suspects whom you know are guilty of something. As a bonus the books also includes a list of recipes for those adventurous enough to try cooking something different and new.

The main problem with this original novel is that it is filled with overkill. As the proposed first book in a series readers get to know too much about Clyde's life that it is hard to think what else is available. Also the author spends too much time describing everything to the last detail (outfits Clyde is wearing at the time, Florida history, and so on) and segues into topics (such as the motives in character's deaths) that just do not flow naturally. This gives the story a stilted feel, with material shoved in left and right. The book has its entertaining moments but it just tried a little to hard to please. Regardless of that, it is worth giving a shot. Hopefully it will improve.
