The wilds of the Amazon jungle is home to many different creatures, one of which is a very rare insect that has a strange substance in its body. When the insect bites a human its venom changes the cells of the human brain, turning that person into a raging psychopath. Anyone, or any country that possess this natural chemical, can control the world with its power.

Many governments are trying to find the secret to this insect and France believes that it is the closest. The United States cannot let that happen, so a covert operative, Sam Wintripp and his group, are sent to the Amazon jungle to find Michael Bowden, a research scientist who is trying to uncover the secrets of the venom.

But others are also looking for Bowden, like terrorist Devan Gaudet, a Frenchman and one of Wintripp's enemies. Gaudet wants the deadly substance to gain world power and he plans to get it with the help of his girlfriend, Benoit Moreau.

Both Wintripp and Gaudet will do whatever they can, not only to find the scientist and learn the secrets of the chemical, but also to do what they can to kill each other.

UNACCEPTABLE RISK by David Dun is a complex book that weaves a sophisticated spy story with an equally good horror tale. There is a huge cast of characters including, Wintripp's actress girlfriend, her niece who works for Wintripp and there's also an ex-girlfriend who aids in the case. Gaudet's French girlfriend Benoit adds a great deal to the story. She's an intelligent woman who early in the book, escapes from prison by getting the French government to pardon her.

Mr Dun has a unique knack for writing a tightly-woven plot while using many different characters without confusing the reader.

Filled with top-notch adventure and a fast-paced narrative, UNACCEPTABLE RISK is not a book you should risk missing.
