In this third book of the WITCH series, the girls are still attempting to find Elyon, their missing friend. However, to do this they must balance their personal and school life with their magical and dangerous lives. To save Elyon, the girls must find the correct portal to the city of Meridian in Metamoor and one of the girls will not return to their everyday life as a real person.

Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin (WITCH) are becoming more individual characters now as they get to know each other, their super power gifts, and their own personal flaws better.

Whether discovering that their powers allow Hay Lin to snap a cement pillar in two or Cornelia to crack the stone slab by crushing it with magical vines around the slab, the further discovery of their individual powers takes up a large portion of FINDING MERIDIAN.

A locked and heavy blue book that the girls cannot open mysteriously appears after Elyon has been chased back to Metamoor. The girls are certain though, that the book possesses the answers to all their questions and abilities.

Also, the rivalries and jealousies between the girls are becoming part of this serial. This makes the characters possess flaws and also allows their personalities to develop. This is in direct opposition to their mission as being Guardians who must save the world from Metamoor.

Especially troubled in FINDING MERIDIAN is Will, whose mother has started to date one of Will's teachers. With Will being a new student, this makes her school life even more difficult with the other girls and students. Will does not approve of her giggling and flirtatious mother with one of her teachers.

The girls are also having problems with a strange math teacher, Mrs. Rudolph, and decide to break into her house to possibly answer some strange things. Using a phone card to break in, having the teacher return to the house, skipping school, and this unpleasant teacher suddenly being willing to personally tutor one of the Guardians creates suspense for young girls.

I found FINDING MERIDIAN to be more appealing to young readers as each girl also possess flaws, as well as magical powers. Also, the comic pages at the beginning and end are not repeating the text and actually now continue the story. The strength of this particular book is these comic pages since the story is beginning to flow now in these sections rather than magical superpowers overwhelming each page of the text part of the novel. The cartoon pages are adding to the depth of the story and assisting in its understanding and the wonderful developing relationship of the girls.
