In rural Connecticut, realtor Ben Abbott is called to the McMansion of Henry King, wealthy ex-diplomat, associate of Henry Kissinger, and all around nasty person. King wants Abbott to buy a sliver of land owned by Richard Butler. The original owner of King's property had willed this bit of land to Butler which sticks into King's land and annoys the latter tremendously. King is not used to having his wishes thwarted.

Dickie Butler, Richard's son, wants to turn his life around before he dies of the AIDS he contracted while in prison. Ben and Dickie have known each other since they were kids, and, it appears that Dickie has reformed. He is helping his father around the farm, cleaning and painting where necessary, but then, a dam which King, the "Silver Fox" had built in order to create a decorative lake on his property, blows up and drains the lake on the day of the celebratory party. Is it terrorists or just old Mr. Butler getting his own back? And why are pieces of Dickie Butler's body found under the debris of the dam? And what is King really up to?

FROSTLINE was originally published in 1997 but has been extensively rewritten for Poisoned Pen's reissue. STONEDUST and HARDSCAPE are the other 2 Abbott tales, but all can be read as standalones, if you can find them. I hope Poisoned Pen Press encourages Scott to write more, and also reprints some of his earlier work, especially his thriller SHIPKILLER.
