Anna Kovac, New York novelist, is depressed by the aftermath of Sept.11. She can't make any progress on her latest novel. When she reads in the Yale Review an ad offering the swap of a villa in Tuscany for a residence in Manhattan for the four summer months, she sees this as a perfect solution to her situation. She convinces her novelist English friend, Genevieve to come with her.

Genevieve, divorced with two sons in college, at a stalemate with her music critic and sometime lover, Hector, is suffering from a lack of confidence. Joining them is Candy, a single mother with a son with special needs. She is working to create a portfolio of fashion designs.

The three find life in Tuscany almost idyllic. Their various agenda are working smoothly. Suddenly Anna finds her credit card overdrawn; her work on her computer destroyed;her bank account wiped out. The architect renovating her brownstone house is killed. She returns to New York to try to resolve the situation. There she finds her brownstone house boarded up and up for sale. All her assets are wiped out with no trace of them. Her aged father has been placed in a retirement home and his home sold by a mysterious woman.

With her dearest friend., lawyer, Paige, they try to find the elusive owner of the villa, Dan Sutherland, who is mysteriously missing. Another murder occurs before Anna is able to discover the diabolic plot against her.

This is a fascinating story of three women who support each other to find solutions to their problems. The action is smooth and suspenseful. The search by Anna and Paige to unravel the scam to which Anna is subjected holds the attention of the reader. The sense of place and of the people is successfully evoked. The reader can sense the serenity and atmosphere of Tuscany as opposed to the frantic pace of Manhattan. The plot is well contrived with twists and turns that hold the reader's attention throughout.
