Trish Maguire is an English barrister working on a special project for her mentor, Henry Buxford. She has no time to deal with it since se became the guardian of her young half-brother during tragic unexpected circumstances. She is determined to protect David from the violence in his young life; however, one does not always get what one wants. Trish’s investigation of some old art painting awake a decades-old secret that someone is determined to keep buried. What began as a routine query turns into something deeper, endangering the lives of those close to her. A PLACE OF SAFETY is a clear mystery that will grab you almost immediately in the first chapter gripping you to your seat until the very end.

Natasha Cooper is a well-established writer with a loyal following. She includes World War I flashbacks within the story in order to enhance the work that Trish is working on. It might feel almost like reading a scene from Hemingway’s A FAREWELL TO ARMS, except that the story is less sappy and the female characters are multi-dimensional instead of cardboard cutouts. The relationship between Jean Pierre and Helene Gregoire is well written and gives segue to a deep dark secret. The two storylines will merge at the end giving it a satisfying resolution.

Trish is headstrong and a go-getter that for the first time she has to balance her career with taking care of her half-brother. The character feels like a real individual and does not go over the top. It is unfortunate that some readers are not familiar with the work of this author. Don’t make that same mistake. Try one of Ms. Cooper’s novels today.
