Stephanie Plum, the world's most inept bounty hunter, and her plus sized ex prostitute assistant Lula are at it again in TO THE NINES. This time, she's after a possible immigrant bond skip, Samuel Singh, who is due to leave the country in a week, when his visa expires. Stephanie takes a job at the factory in which Singh had been working. Her only clue to his whereabouts is the name of a man working at a MacDonalds. She finds him, only to have him shot dead while she is talking to him.

Someone has broken into her apartment, so she moves in with Morelli, the sexy cop. with the Strega for a grandmother...the one who constantly has visions of Stephanie in a coffin. Also, during this time, Grandma Mazur is in top form, calling her at work to solve nonexistent problems at home. Stephanie's parent's home is in a bit of an uproar. Her sister is very pregnant and very unmarried, so she and her 2 children are living in the tiny, one bathroom home with mother, father, and grandma Mazur. Total pandemonium is the standard here.

Ranger is called in to help guard Stephanie from the unknown stalker. Stephanie and Lula set off for Las Vegas, where they hope to find Singh, with hilarious consequences, including Stephanie managing to disable several of Ranger's best men without meaning to.

I had given up on this series several books ago, but when the audio book came in, I decided to give it another try. Evanovich is back on form with this one, but I wish the reader, had less elegant diction. There are several Jersey accents. C. J. Critt uses none of them, but rather sounds like a favorite relative reading the story.
