A MERRY LITTLE MURDER is the second book featuring Lindy Graham Haggerty. Lindy is the costume designer for a dance company. Her troupe agrees to do a performance at a ballroom dancing competition. Lindy has invited her sometimes boyfriend, Bill Brandecker to spend the week with her at this event. Bill is a former New York cop, who does not like her tendency to become enmeshed in murder investigations. Both Lindy and her friend, Biddy McFee, have had experience with murder yet they did not expect to find one at this competition.

Dawn Gilpatrick is one of the leading studio directors. Her best hope for winning this specific competition is Shane and Katja. Unfortunately, Shane is ready to leave the partnership and Katja is not the clean cut Russian girl she leads people to believe. Shane’s body is found murdered under the boardwalk and the obvious suspect is Katja. She has disappeared completely, which causes people to wonder if she was murdered as well. Lindy’s curiosity overwhelms her and she begins asking questions. Although her help is not welcome, Lindy must find the murderer before any of her friends are harmed.

A MERRY LITTLE MURDER is a cute book. It is completely non-threatening and comfortable. Lindy does put herself into stupid and dangerous situations; however, there is no fear that she will not be able to extract herself from harm. She might need outside assistance (in the form of Bill) but she will always remain safe. Obviously, the book lacked any true suspense or grittiness.

Although the book is not the most captivating of mysteries, it was still enjoyable. This book takes an in-depth look at ballroom dancing and the competition that exists within this miniscule world. It also was enjoyable (although stereotypical) to see the gay dancers and fashion designers interacting. There is nothing quite like a bunch of temperamental dancers and fashion designers prancing in the background of a mystery.

A MERRY LITTLE MURDER is a solid second book. This book is a nice quick safe read. In addition, Lindy’s troupe of dancers help keep the book lighthearted and relaxing.
