Lisa McDougall was a jewelry designer in New York City. She had a talent for working with gems. She seemed to sense what stone would fit each persons personality. Her dream was to get away from the obsessive Russian who owned the shop she worked in and start a business of her own.

When an uncle she did not know existed passed away , leaving her sole heir to his wealth, a lovely emerald necklace and a home in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it seemed her prayers were answered. She quickly quit her job, making the Russian owner wild with fury. She moved in a very secretive manner and prepared to begin her new life.

Only after arriving does she begin to realize her uncle had a plan for her-she is a McDougall and can feel the emerald's power, She must learn to control it and protect herself and the fabulous treasure the land hides.

Once Lisa visits the nearest town of Ben Lomond, Lisa's beauty attracts the attention of three very different men. A Sheriff, a DEA Officer and a local attorney. They all have a interest in this lovely woman, although some interests are not always safe ones. As Lisa develops her powers with the help of a friendly ghost she soon finds herself under attack. She must discover which of the three men want to harm her and why.

I enjoyed the gem lore of this book and its setting in the Blue Ridge mountains which is where I live. I could actually name a couple of places that this book could be based on.

I usually prefer my mysteries without quite so much romance but in the case of Ms. Michael's book it carried the story quite well.
