A new Chee-Leaphorn book is always reason for excitement, and THE SINISTER PIG is no exception. Oil is being diverted from the pipeline so the Tribal Trust Fund isn't getting full royalties. An undercover agent is sent to investigate, but his body turns up on the reservation.

Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito, having given up on Jim Chee, has left the Navajo Tribal Police for the U. S. Customs Service. But something is wrong here also. When she tries to investigate a strange occurrence on a "game" farm, she is stonewalled, and not allowed to enter the ranch. Her boss also calls her on the carpet for attempting to talk her way onto the ranch, and takes her photos, also using her camera to take her picture. Later, when she stops to help a Mexican family stuck in the desert, she is told that her picture has been passed among the drug smugglers as a dangerous federal agent. Curiouser and curioser.

Sgt Jim Chee and his Hopi friend, Cowboy Dashee, who is with the Federal Bureau of Land Management take off for the New Mexico border to see if they can use the BLM to get onto the ranch that Bernie feels may be involved in the oil diversion. Joe Leaphorn is checking old maps to see why the ranch owner is so secretive.

George Guidall is one of the  best narrators working for Recorded Books. This, the 16 thbook in the series, may not be one of the most exciting, but he brings the story to life. My major complaint is that is was too short.
