It is always a pleasure and an honor to read the latest entry in Jance's popular Sheriff Joanna Brady series. EXIT WOUNDS is the tenth book of the series and they just keep getting better and better. People unfamiliar with this Bisbee, Arizona law enforcement office will enjoy reading about a widow being in charge of the local police after the murder of her husband the sheriff. She is an ordinary woman doing extraordinary things and does not go over the top in most of the story situations. Fans of this collection will get reacquainted with old friends, the people in Joanna's life, and see what is in store in this latest book.

Sheriff Joanna Brady is looking at a possible serial killer working in her own backyard. Carol Mossman was shot inside her locked home trapped with a group of dogs she tried to care for. The animals die of the heat and the public is outraged. No, not with the victim, but with her dogs. The killing is unusual for a variety of reasons, but mostly for the use of an unusual weapon. When other bodies turned up killed by the same method, Joanna realizes there must be a link. A secret from Carol Mossman is about to revealed and someone wants to keep it hidden. Everyone will have their hands full here and they will do what they can to stop a killer who wants to bury the past forever.

What makes this series so likable is that no matter what the main story line is; life goes on in Bisbee. Sheriff Brady has gone through a lot since her first appearance in DESERT HEAT and has become a stronger person in the four-and-a-half years the stories have taken place. She has gone through many ups and downs and the reader gets to share this. EXIT WOUNDS is no exception. Just like in all of her books something will happen that will change some specific characters in ways they could not imagine. One of them involves the Sheriff running for reelection. She is still new at this job, but she would not have it any other way. You not only care for what Joanna goes through but her friends and family as well. Reading one of her books is like coming home, where you know everyone and care for all of them. One can never grow tired of this book. Life goes on. See what you have been missing,
